It is established that Elizabeth Shue in the remake of Piranha

Today comes word that Elizabeth Shue will star in the upcoming remake of Piranha which will be done in 3-D. Elisabeth Shue in Piranha remake Rumors have been swimming about pinning actress Elisabeth Shue to Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3D last few days. Turns out, they're correct.

Moviehole.net announced on Sunday that Shue “is indeed in negotiations to play the female lead.”

Some may think Elisabeth Shue’s greatest movie roles were The Karate Kid or Back to the Future, but that was before Hamlet 2 came along. And now that it has been announced that she has officially joined Alex Aja’s Piranha 3D.

Elizabeth Shue is both stunning and talented and is a great choice to bring some real acting credibility to this upcoming horror remake. Aja directed amongst other things the remake of Hills Have Eyes and High Tension. He has the potential to deliver one hell of a film.

“Shue is playing the role of Sherrif Julie Forester, a take-charge authority figure in the community of Lake Victoria - where the action/ankle-biting takes place. She’s the mother of Jake (one of the central characters in the film - the shy teenager who gets to prove his worth when human-eating fish threaten his family and friends), Laura and Zane.”

The remake is written by Aja and Josh Stolberg. The story goes that a tremor causes Arizona's Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas.

Piranha 3D should begin shooting in Arizona really soon, and is scheduled to be released theatrically by Dimension Films releases on March 19, 2010.
