“Fast & Furious” speeds into theaters this week with all of the chrome rims, explosive car chases and half-naked women audiences have come to expect from a franchise that’s on its fourth film.
According to Hollywood Insider, the film debuted on Friday, making a surprise earning of $30.1 million. This was more than twice the expected earning that industry observers had speculated. The film, which reunites the cast of 2001’s “The Fast and The Furious,” earned well over its expectations and is on track to pass $75 or even $80 million – leaving the previous April record holder, 2003’s “Anger Management,” in the dust. The Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson face-off earned $42 million its opening weekend.According to Box Office Mojo. I2001's movi went on to earn over $200 million worldwide.

As usual, the cars also take a starring role in these films. However, instead of focusing on the tricked-out foreign cars as in most of the previous movies, “Fast & Furious” tosses in some serious old-school American muscle. Souped-up Chargers, Chevelles, Trans Ams, Mustangs and Gran Torinos all take center stage.

All in all, “Fast & Furious” lives up to and, in some cases, surpasses the films that came before it. It brings back the nostalgia of the pulse-pounding first film and tosses in a little drama for substance that later films in the series lacked. It may not win any awards for the best film of the year, but it is definitely a fun night at the movies.
